A=AGHT is proudly the recipient of the first round of the New Orleans based Transforma Mini-Grant committed to art, social justice and recovery.
The grant was for $2000, and we would respectfully like the thank the Transforma Projects for choosing to support A=AGHT.
More information is available here: Transforma Projects
Transforma Projects is a collective of artists and creative professionals formed after Hurricane Katrina as a means of supporting, nurturing and celebrating creative practices that impact the recovery of New Orleans. The initiative explores how art-making can intersect with other sectors such as education, health, environment and community development. The initiative was founded by Jessica Cusick, Sam Durant, Rick Lowe & Robert Ruello. Transforma Projects works in partnership with the National Performance Network (NPN), an organization based in New Orleans. Transforma Projects is in the process of developing a Local Advisory Team here in New Orleans comprised of artists and members of the fields mentioned above. If you are interested in participating, please contact jess@transformaprojects.orgAbout Transforma Projects
A=AGHT is in maintainence mode as it prepares for the UPCOMING EXCHANGE!!!!
STAY TUNED TO FIND OUT WHO IS COMING!!!
A=AGHT is not the same with out Maria leading her classes over here- but we will recover. The kids (and adults) want to thank her for everything she contributed. It was a remarkable amount of time, patience and openess.
Y'all on the island side are fortunate folk... meetcha somewhere in the middle!
WE MISS YOU MARIA!

Lino Prints of currency design are being printed as we speak, complete with production line and Quality Control. Stay posted for Project Page which should be online this week.

It had to happen sometime...Maria left New Orleans and is looking forward to workshops on the Irish side of the lake. Those fireants and palmetto bugs will be sorely missed. Thanks so much to all the A=AGHT participants who helped make her stay the trip of a lifetime. Thanks y'all

Stay Posted for a Second Line Irish Style!!!
A free benefit concert was held in Martin Luther King School in the Lower ninth Ward, headlined by the shoeless Michael Franti and Spearhead. Check out the 2nd line that danced to the sound of Rebirth, New Orleans favourite brass band. http://www.rebirthbrassband.com/
For the uninitiated a second line is a very specific parade originally at a funeral. The 'first line' was relatives of the deceased, the second line consisted of the brass band and dancers who dance their asses off brandishing feathers and umbrellas. Then the crowd joins in - from baby dancers to granpops and granmas, making it super special. They happen sporadically in the city centre or on sundays. A celebration of life, love and music. A bit like Daniel O Donnell :)

Breakfast in New Orleans... after working super late the night before!

So the avatar project based on each other's profiles... is [finally] ready to roll. The project called IseeYou/YouSeeMe is based on pairing participants with out any prior references to each other. Avatars would be built exclusively in response to paired profiles between members of the A=AGHT community. This project quesitons about how we percieve ourselves and how others perceive us based on our personal perceptions... wow.:)
If you would be interested in trying the technology and being paired up with current profile, send us a mail!
jackie@AequalsAGHT.org
... or whisper in one of our ears :), We will get you paired up and running!
Have a look at some examples.

Well, A=AGHT seems to be moving right along by the end of next week we should have THREE projects pages up and ready to be viewed, thanks for everyone who has been patient, there were some bumps in the road but the Mayor of A=AGHT hired some wonderful municiple folks to fix it up. Pot holes good bye!
IN THE MEANTIME... we are beginning to work out the details for the up coming residency at COWHOUSE STUDIOS, and it looks like we have some young folks lined up from both Black Star and YAYA... and now we just need to get the funding for their flights.
Its a really exciting time. It looks like the residency will happen the first two weeks of August, so please stay tuned into your A=AGHT news for details!

Things are in FULL swing plus with YA YA inc, which is exciting news.
Maria has been working with young folks in YAYA to kick off the first half of the "currency" project which asks young people to identify who and what are immortalized on their currency- and then create new currency for A=AGHT!
The name of the currency is the STACK, or STACKS, and there are some exciting designs coming forward which young people in Dublin will then create the backs.
Looking forward to it, just wanted to give everyone out there the heads up!!!

Straight outta(ght) Tallaght facilitators Maria Hinds and Jackie Sumell have landed in New Orleans. The welcome has been warm, close to HOT and project are underway with folks from YAYA's inc, Leadership Discovery and Black Star Academy. New Orleans doesn't sleep, so neither do they! Please stay posted for more detailed updates and pictures!!!
We have just put the site live. There is still a lot to do but profiles and image uploads are working so the participants in Dublin and New Orleans can get busy building their identity in the virtual space that is A=AGHT.
If you would like to find out more about the project just check out the links below!
Stay tuned!
